If you were to ask that question in the street today you will get many different answers, many of which would not match the biblical definition.

Even Christians get it wrong.

For many, church is just a building. To others a place of worship.

In the New Testament, “temple” and “synagogue” are the only words that describe a building as a place of worship

Church is not a building but an assembly of people who make up the “body of Christ” (See Colossians 1:24 Romans 16:5). – People that have been saved by grace and have given Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, His rightful place in their lives.

They have, of their own free will, invited Jesus to be their Lord and Saviour.

So according to the bible the Church is the complete body of Born again believers of Christ that have received the free gift of salvation by calling on the name of Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour and being filled and empowered by His Holy Spirit.

Many would argue that the church is irrelevant. The church now is as relevant as it was when it came into being.

It has a purpose and that purpose is to live for God and make Him known to others.

Firstly, by Exalting God as we have been called to live “to the praise of His glory”.(See Ephesians 1: 12).

Secondly, by Edifying (building up) the saints (fellow believers) - “To present every man perfect in Christ Jesus” (See Colossians 1: 28)

Thirdly, by Evangelizing – “Go into all the world and preach the Gospel to all creation” (See Mark 16: 15).

As Christians we follow these principles and apply the practices of the early church as set out in the book of Acts

We don’t go to church – we are church!
